A Night Ride on a Glowing Blue Lane

There is a place in northern Europe, near the Baltic Sea, where the night lights up blue. Lidzbark Warminski is not much of a popular town; it is not a big city, it wasn't home to any famous personalities, it doesn't host any particularly appealing events, and it doesn't have an amazingly valuable artistic heritage.

Lidzbark Warminski is nothing but a small village in Poland. But you know you should never judge a book by its cover, because even the smallest pebble could hide a precious stone. A few months ago Lidzbark Warminski created quite the buzz with a brilliant idea: a bike path that shines at night.

By day, it's nothing but a normal path for bikes and pedestrians, just like millions of other paths in millions of cities worldwide, but at nightfall it turns into a river of light! Using a synthetic phosphorous material that is perfectly suited to the road surface, the ground absorbs solar energy during the day and slowly releases it at night, making the entire path glow bright blue. There is no need for artificial light at night to ride along this path: the road remains “on” for almost ten hours by emitting the light accumulated during the day.

Inspired by the Van Gogh-Roosegaarde path (italian reference only), a Dutch bike path that uses solar power combined with solar panels and LED lights to make the road glow green at night, the Lidzbark Warminski lane goes beyond that: it doesn't require any power sources other than the Sun, and Polish engineers are also working to make this glowing asphalt release some nice fragrances, to offer anyone riding or strolling along the blue lane an unforgettable sensory experience.

The colour was not accidental: the phosphorescent material used for the path could come in many different shades but, after much thought, the Polish designers believed that blue was the most suitable choice. Perfect for the night landscape, evoking calm and peace of mind, blue is also a symbol of harmony.

This is why the same colour was chosen to emphasise the safety and relaxation that you can experience when pedalling on a Ta+Too saddle - the removable saddle created to deliver ultimate comfort and protection from the elements at the same time.
